Daniel Urological Center, Inc.
offers treatment for but not limited to the following conditions:
o We treat
Diseases of the Kidney
including stone disease, tumors, congenital abnormalities, and
acquired disorders. Surgical treatments include conventional open
and laproscopic approaches. We have a state of the art LithoStar
Lithotripter for the treatment of kidney and ureteral stones without
the need for general anesthesia. We also offer percutaneous stone
removal procedures for patients with very large or multiple large
stones. We perform endoscopic stone removal procedures as well
utilizing the holmium laser device. We are able to treat renal
tumors by all accepted modalities including laproscopic cryoablative
procedures, partial nephrectomy, and radical nephrectomy.
o We treat
Ureteral problems
including stones, strictures, tumors, congenital abnormalities,
reflux, and obstruction. We perform reconstructive procedures for
ureteral injuries and other indications, utilizing the bladder to
form a new ureteral tube or by utilizing intestinal substitution.
o We treat
Bladder problems
including tumors, stones, interstitial cystitis, incontinence, and
protrusion of the vagina, bladder, and uterus. Dr. Cope is currently
recognized as an instructor for training new physicians on the
Interstim procedure for the most severe functional bladder problems
which have failed more traditional management options.
o We treat
Urinary Incontinence from a
host of different etiologies in both men and women. The treatment
options include pubovaginal sling procedures, collagen injection,
and placement or revision of artificial urinary sphincters. Over
time, some artificial urinary sphincters will cease to function
properly whether it is from atrophy of the urethra, mechanical
problems, or infection. Often it becomes necessary to place two
urethral cuffs rather than one. Sometimes device failure will
require changing the reservoir pressure, original cuff size, or a
combination of all three of these options may become necessary.
o We perform
Hernia repairs
in babies, children, and men when needed. This may mean removal of
the hernia sac, reinforcement of the inguinal floor, or both. This
is generally performed as an outpatient procedure.
o We treat
Testicular problems
including intermittent or complete torsion, hydroceles, varicoceles,
and spermatoceles. We can perform scrotal ultrasound in our office
for the evaluation of testicular masses and tumors. We treat
children for failure of descent or maldescent of the testicles, as
well as congenital absence. We offer laproscopic examination for
nonpalpable undescended testes thus avoiding a larger incision when
appropriate.
o
Penile problems
we treat include
Erectile Dysfunction and
evaluation. We also treat problems with abnormal curvature, which
may be a sign of Peyronies’ disease, penile fracture, tight foreskin
generally referred to as phimosis, and hypospadias. A comprehensive
treatment program of erectile function is available from medical
treatments with oral medications, chemical injections therapy, and
procedures for the insertion of penile prosthetic devices providing
improved spontaneity, confidence, and performance. This treatment
although usually regarded by patients as last resort, is far and
away the treatment which seems to yield the greatest patient and
partner satisfaction. Most patients actually ask why they were not
told to do this sooner.
o We take care of
Prostatitis and other urinary
infectious or inflammatory conditions. This can lead to various
expressions of pain, voiding problems, and performance issues.
o We see many men for problems with
Male Infertility as well as
decreased testosterone levels. These may be the result of prior
vasectomy, varicocele, congenital testicular problems, or even
pituitary problems.
o We offer treatments for
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
including the Green Light PVP laser procedure, Thermotherapy, open
surgical removal, and conventional resection. We are able to provide
in office thermotherapy treatments including the Prolieve
thermodialtion procedure. This is a painless office procedure and
can be performed in as little as 40 minutes. It does not require a
catheter to be inserted afterward for most men, and results in
rapid symptomatic improvement for most men without the cost of a
hospital procedure or the associated anesthesia risk. The procedure
causes the prostate to shrink away over several weeks after the
procedure. Sometimes there will be a transient increase in urinary
frequency while the dead tissue is breaking down into the urine.
o We screen for and treat
Prostate Cancer . Treatment
options include surgical removal, cryotherapy, radioactive seed
implantation, hormonal therapies, and external beam radiotherapy.
Cryotherapy is a relatively new option compared to the others which
has appeal to many individuals. It allows the prostate tissue to be
killed by freezing rather than being removed or radiated. It has the
advantage of utilizing a single ice ball to kill the prostate
tissue. This seems to be a real advantage over having 60 to 70
radioactive seeds placed throughout the prostate. It allows for
treatment up to the intestinal border of the prostate as well under
continuous ultrasound monitoring.
o We offer a full spectrum of
Bladder Cancer treatments
including bladder instillation of anti-tumor medications, endoscopic
resection, complete bladder removal, and surveillance. We work
closely with oncologists and radiation oncologists when appropriate
through our comprehensive cancer center to offer the best treatments
available with an effort to preserve the native bladder whenever
possible without compromising your treatment.
o There are many types of Kidney
Cancer which we are able to cure effectively with
partial or total nephrectomy. Sometimes it is appropriate to
utilize laproscopic techniques as opposed to open surgery. Yet other
tumors often may be treated by cryoablative procedures rather than
surgical removal through a laproscope.
o As mentioned previously in the
section regarding bladder disease, Interstitial
Cystitis and other inflammatory bladder disorders may be
treated by a number of surgical and medical means.
o We treat acute and chronic
Urinary Tract Infection and
the associated pathological conditions which may cause them.
o Hematuria, or
Blood in the urine,
is a
very common problem we evaluate. This may be due to something very
simple or to life threatening bladder, kidney, or ureteral cancers.
Stones are a frequent cause of this problem as well.
o We treat all aspects of Female
Urology as well including problems related to voiding, sexual
function, incontinence, protrusion, and infection.
o We offer many office procedures
including: Vasectomy
reversal, cystoscopy, removal of genital warts, and prostate
ultrasound and biopsy. We offer ultrasound of the kidney, bladder,
and testis. Ultrasound bladder
residual determinations can be performed which allow us to determine
how well you are emptying your bladder without the need to insert a
catheter and the pleasures associated with that! We offer flow
studies to determine how well your bladder empties, PSA testing,
testosterone and hormonal testing, stone analysis, urinalysis, semen
analysis, and other procedures.
o
We are able to achieve Excellent patency results with
Vasectomy Reversal. This can
be achieved in our Mebane office under a
local anesthetic or in the hospital under a general anesthetic by
Dr. Daniel. The tremendous cost savings which we are able to offer
by performing this service in our office has met with overwhelming
popularity.
